Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, supported by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
